SmackDown Live

SmackDown opens with a recap of last week's main event.

Renee Young brings out AJ Styles at the top of the show for an interview. She immediately asks him if it's fair for him to have to defend the title in a handicap match. He says he was being sarcastic when he said he would face Owens and Zayn, but he knows he can’t take back what he said.

Styles refuses to point fingers and blame anyone for his current position despite Young needling him with questions. KO and Zayn come out on the stage to mock Styles and his nicknames. Owens claims he and Zayn will be the first ever co-champions in WWE history. Zayn keeps saying Yep to everything KO says until Shane McMahon's music hits.

Shane books Owens and Zayn in a different handicap match against Randy Orton, Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles for tonight. We see Shane run into Daniel Bryan backstage and they have a strange exchange, but they still shake hands.

Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin head to the ring after the break to talk about how they they felt screwed over in last week's tag title match. They complain about the circumstances surrounding their loss last week and how the second referee is to blame. Bryan comes out and says he
understands how Gable and Benjamin feel, but he won't stand for management being targeted, and officials represent management. Bryan says the ref has the
final say, and Benjamin says that is exactly why they should still be champions right now. Gable asks if they have to beat The Usos twice in the same night to win the title, and Bryan thinks it's a great idea. He books a 2 out of 3 falls match for the belts at Royal Rumble.
