Seth Rollins is set to host a retirement ceremony for Rey Mysterio to open RAW.

Seth Rollins says that he will enlighten Aleister Black because he seems to be confused. He went on to say that Rey Mysterio would be on the program, but he felt that Rey would not be able to bring himself to announce his own retirement, so Rollins was doing it for him.

Rollins says that Rey was chosen as a sacrifice for the greater good of Monday Night RAW

Rollins says that to admire the end of Mysterio's career he has prepared a video package and tells people to enjoy who Rey is. The montage shows Rey against his biggest opponents.

SmackDown

SmackDown opens with Renee Young outside reporting on an accident.

Elias has apparently been hit by a car which apparently is Jeff Hardy’s rental.

Braun Strowman is an eye witness, and was in fact the one who called 911 for Elias. However, the Universal Champion does not know who ran him down.

They've found Jeff Hardy hurt several yards away. The paramedics claim that he smells like alcohol, like the bottles in the car. Jason Jordan and Jamie Noble attempt to help him into the building, but he's cuffed to be taken downtown.

Jeff Hardy has been taken to the police station for questioning and Elias is being transferred to a Local Medical Facility.

There's going to be a battle royal tonight to determine who will replace Elias and Jeff Hardy in the Intercontinental Championship tournament.

RAW

Tonight, Charlotte will face Nia Jax and Natalya to see who will challenge Asuka for the RAW Women's Championship. To get some insight on this, KO's guest is Asuka.

Asuka starts off chanting for Becky Lynch.

KO plugs Becky Lynch's "The Mom" shirt.

KO shows some footage from last week where Asuka and Kairi Sane were interrupted by Nia Jax. Sane would later be attacked by Jax backstage, with Asuka getting some revenge. As Asuka began talking about what went down, Charlotte Flair enters the ring.

Charlotte claims that the RAW Women's Championship should've been handed to her, not Asuka. In fact, Asuka has never even beaten Charlotte. Natalya comes out and interrupts.

KO removes the chairs and signs before Natalya gets in, making sure she couldn't break any more of his equipment. Natalya apologizes, and Flair claims she's just kissing up to KO. Nia Jax comes out.

Kevin Owens, seeing where this is all going, leaves the ring before Jax enters. Jax says that just like Kairi Sane, she'll bulldoze through the champ at Backlash. A four-way brawl breaks out, with Asuka standing on top.

Andrade (c) vs. Apollo Crews for United States Championship

Apollo Crews won and is the new United States Champion.

The IIconics come out.

Peyton Royce apologizes for losing last week. Billie Kay apologizes for slapping her. The IIconics then claim that they never had a real opportunity to defender their belts, and a crazy lady and the office's favorite blonde will not be able to keep them away from those titles for long.

Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross enter the ring, but the IIconics tell Nikki that she can't talk and should be grateful to be there. Cross says that she scratched and crawled to get here, and her first real friend, Alexa Bliss, was there for her when she was seen as a nobody in the locker room.

Cross goes on to say that they're real friends because they helped each other grow. Bliss keeps her focused and in check, Cross taught Bliss about true friendship. The IIconics decide that they've head enough, and lay out the WWE Women's Tag Team Champions.

MVP hosts the VIP Lounge with special guest, WWE Champion Drew McIntyre.

MVP announces McIntyre as the soon to be the former champion and McIntyre responds by trying to break the furniture.

MVP says that Lashley won't be locking him in the Full Nelson yet. No contract, no contact.

MVP brings us down memory lane, reminding us that he tried to align himself with Drew McIntyre earlier this year. Back then, McIntyre laid him out with a Claymore. Since then, MVP wanted to be responsible in McIntyre losing his title.

McIntyre, just like the last time he was on the VIP Lounge, said that he doesn't need someone thinking for him, talking for him, or kissing his butt. He follows up, saying that the only way anyone is taking the WWE Championship is if it's pried from his cold, dead hands.

MVP says that can easily be arranged. Lashley enters the arena, but McIntyre lays out MVP with another Claymore.

McIntyre demands that we see the real Lashley. He backs off, leaving with MVP in tow.

Edge addresses Randy Orton, claiming that he's doubting his ability as an in-ring performer. After all these years, can he still hang with the best inside the squared circle? Edge was gone for over 3,000 days. In that time, Orton wrestled over 1,000 matches.

Edge has held his own against the greatest wrestlers in the world. The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Christian, Mr. Perfect, the list goes on. The Rated-R Superstar says he was a five-star workhorse for the WWE back in the day. Now, though, he doesn't know if he has what it takes.

At Backlash, he'll do everything in his power to prove himself wrong.
